2 Dutch lawyers have been ordered by the court to take AI training, following their use of AI to cite cases that did not exist or were unrelated to the cases being tried.

Legal obligations of honesty and competence do not change with the use of AI. The fact is that AI is just another data source, and it is well-documented that it introduces a high risk of hallucinations. It is incumbent on lawyers to verify the content of information presented to the court.

While AI is a great tool, there are some professions, legal included, where domain-specific guardrails are required to ensure the accurate and repeatable quality of AI output.

It is a reason we created a Board AI governance program. That is equally valid for the legal profession.
