2025 was a year when the UK felt the effects of cyber attacks on its GDP and the role of cybersecurity in national security. To a degree, the UK has been lucky; it has not seen the types of attack that have impacted CNI, such as those felt by Denmark on water utilities, or the US on Healthcare insurance (2024). Thankfully, our lack of solar reduced the effects of potential cyberattacks on imported inverters.

The introduction of cyber regulations by the United States Department of War will impact covered UK defence contractors in 2026, and the gradual rollout of EU NIS2 and the CRA will affect UK companies trading in the EU.
