A great article on the importance of small business for U.S national defence and addressing what we call the 99% problem. All nations and their agencies rely on small business, and the DoD is no exception. But for cybersecurity the 99% problem is a significant issue, not just nationally but internationally for the DoD.
Small businesses are key to cybersecurity risk management and a hard nut to crack. SME/ SMBs are the least likely to afford cyber security, or cyber insurance, most likely to fold in the event of a cyber attack, they hold critical CUI that requires security and they are the most impacted by cybersecurity regulation. Cyber regulation that is approaching rapidly from the U.S and EU.
Having a focus on small business cyber is important for national security and finding a solution to the 99% problem is critical for the DOD, its’ DFARS and CMMC program nationally and internationally.
