A great read on the convergence and impact of cyber on offensive cyber. With Cyber an agreed field of operation for NATO, clearly one for China and the US a recent study by US and Chinese think tanks raises concerns that a cyber attack on a nuclear system could quickly escalate to nuclear conflict. As both side do not understand the risk of cyber attacks and their broader impact on nuclear systems.
Cyber as an offensive weapon has the ability to infiltrate further, faster and be more affective than the traditional ‘bombs and bullets’ offensive systems. With both China and the US heavily involved in cyber espionage it won’t be a surprise that both countries are rooted in each others infrastructure and strategically targeting Government and commercial systems.
It’s a real concern that we are discussing the possibility of a conflict triggered by a cyber attack on nuclear infrastructure.
