A nice post. Cybersecurity is a complex problem, one that many governments and organisations have failed to address in a timely manner. The challenge is not solely the focus on the threat, its the erosion of corporate and social value that cyber creates on many levels.
The biggest issue is not ransomware by a very long way, its the theft of Intellectual Property and the resultant damage to completive advantage and national security that poor cybersecurity creates. (https://lnkd.in/e4MA4t-5)
While cyber attacks are not pleasant for an organisation, the costs of an attack is small in comparison to the costs of the loss of IP. IP theft is notoriously difficult to calculate, but when your adversaries weapon systems look similar to your own, or your new pharmaceuticals are similar then questions should be raised.
I expect that the move by global regulators towards cybersecurity risk management will embed risk management and efficient cybersecurity oversight into board rooms. Protecting National Infrastructure as well as shareholder value and as pointed out by the article make ‘attacks costly’.
