A nice report from the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENSIA) on the state of cybersecurity maturity of European Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) providers in 2024. While the page 8 of the report provides an indicative, robust, evaluation of the cybersecurity maturity of CNI providers across the scope of EN NIS 2.https://lnkd.in/eTCWrSQPIt is no surprise that banking and telecoms stand out as the most cyber mature industries in the list CNI providers. As both sectors are heavily regulated and benefit from many years of regulatory oversight. Both Financial service and telecoms are also heavily dependent on technology and ICT risk plays a significant part in their operational and cyber risk management. The report highlights a robust suit of dimensions used to evaluate cybersecurity risk management maturity including sector use of policies and frameworks, risk management practices, operational preparedness, collaboration, social-economic impact of incidents and ICT dependence. The complexity of building such a report make the indicative across sectors. In the case of this report it provides a useful and informative indication of the relative cyber maturities of CNI sectors and the effect on socio-economics in the event of a cyber incident. For those sectors focused on building cyber risk management maturity one cannot really go wrong by following US Cyber maturity programs such as FISMA. FISMA contains most of the necessary tools to develop a cyber maturity program from RMF, through CSF and maturity profiles aligned to business and mission objectives.
