A paper worth reading from the Securities and Exchange Commission, on a joint program to develop a Digital Securities Sandbox (DSS) with the Bank of England and Financial Conduct Authority consultation. Creating a digital sandbox to examine the use of Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) to streamline the issuance, trading, and settlement of securities without undermining investor protection, market integrity, or financial stability.
The aim of the DSS is to provide a cross boarder environment in which DLT technology can be securely tested under the same regulatory requirements in both the United Kingdom and the United States. Allowing firms to experiment in the marketplace with specified technologies – for example to using DLT to issue, trade, and settle securities – under their choice of regulatory requirements.
DLT seems to have taken a back seat as the Crypto conversation has taken off, but it provides the foundations of so many opportunities inside and out of Financial Services. One as explored their us across cybersecurity risk management, to provide digital identify and as a tool to validate regulatory compliance and provide prevenance of data.
