AI feels like a runaway train hurtling down the Grand Canyon, and the intoxicated driver is out for the count. So who, if anyone, is going to pull on the brakes?………….anyone…………….or do we let the free market decide. Boards do not understand the risk their organisations are accepting, regulators are too slow, and it’s not in the interest of the big LLM vendors.
Insurers may be the only ones that can pull on the brakes, however gently, through AI risk coverage. Several insurers have raised AI risk as a significant issue and started to exclude AI-related events from P&C and D&O policies.
