An important read. It’s difficult to know what to add to this news article, it speaks for itself. It has been announced that Sellafield the British Nuclear energy site has been hacked. The data held on the site is some of the most sensitive data held in the UK. The site was first attacked back in 2015 and was not reported to regulators as required. Its still not known ‘if the malware has been eradicated’.

There are reports that senior management tried to cover up the incidents and failed to tell regulators. That makes meaningful forensics impossible, or for the UK government cyber agency to undertake meaningful action.

The problem was found when staff at an external site could not access servers on the Sellafield sit and reported it to the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR). Who are now looking to prosecute individuals for failures in cyber management.
