As always thanks for posting Ted Dziekanowski, you make good points. I would say that the U.S has made more effort than most countries to address cybersecurity. It has been the lead country with cyber regulation, cyber enforcement actions and setting cyber and risk management standards. So there’s something shout about.

But that’s where it stops. The big challenge is not one of setting the bar for cyber, the real challenge is working out how to get all stakeholders to the bar and over it. This is by no means just an issue solely for the U.S. But it is an issue that the U.S needs to address if it wants to deliver its cybersecurity compliance programs under the Presidential Executive Orders, and it is an issue to which I see no clear direction.

To take your point on CMMC, there are several issues on the table with no clear ‘deliverables’. How are national and international defence contractors expected to comply, who is going to oversight international defence contractor compliance, how will the DoD address small business cyber and who accepts the compliance risk. This is one example requiring clear answers, without which U.S national security remains an issue.
