Buyer, or contractor beware? There is a lot going on at the moment in the US, an election looms in 4 days, which will impact the future direction of US policy. Both Federal and international over the next 5 years.
However cyber policy seems to be moving ahead irrespective. The DODs DFARS Interim Final Ruling has an effective date of the 30th November 2020 and it appears that the US Governments General Services Administration (GSA) agency is pushing ahead with plans to strength its approach to cyber security and supply chain risk management. Adding CMMC requirements into the STARs III solicitation earlier this year. Now adding CMMC requirements into another contract called ‘Polaris’ (https://lnkd.in/d45C5Zm)
The proceeding months will shape current and future cyber policy in the US. But alongside the DoD, the Federal Government is taking cyber and supply chain security seriously. My concern is that there are not enough qualified and experienced resources available to implement cyber regulations. Least of all provide compliance oversight and assurance.
So buyer beware, the GSA reserves the right of compliance audit and expect more contracts to follow suit.
