Cyber is a complex equation, as is national security.

Cyber is a complex equation, as is national security. The EU and the US introduced security regulations for products and services to demonstrate security before they are sold or distributed (EU CRA).

But wait, the UK has not implemented a national defensive cyber strategy such as that implemented by the EU under regulations that include NIS 2, DORA, the CRA, and the CER. The UK does not hold industry accountable for cyber as do other nation-states. Yet cyber is a whole-of-society problem and has to be addressed at multiple levels. You cannot hold a technology vendor liable for British Economic security, unless you also hold the UK industry and the Government liable.

Why is this the sole issue for technology? They provide solutions that have to be secure. But they are implemented by companies that have, in many cases, ignored cybersecurity as a requirement. If you wish to hold software vendors liable for British Economic security, how many vendors will sell products and services in the UK?
