Call us now:
Cyber requires both a whole of society and a whole of nations approach. I fear however that the problem is to big an elephant to be eaten in one sitting. We are seeing the first steps in the process through the development of national cyber regulations, whether that is the EU through NIS 2 and DORA, the U.S National Cyber strategy, Australia’s cybersecurity strategy, or the SEC proposal that has the potential for international impact or Basel IV that affects central banks and their covered entities.
While the Davos ‘call to arms’ is poignant, national interest is unlikely to be set aside quickly for cyber. As countries grapple with their own problems with cybersecurity and the protection of their own industries.
But there is an opportunity to start to collaborate. As we are at the early stages of regulating cyber risk, we should start to harmonise cybersecurity regulations and implementations, focusing in international cybersecurity frameworks and standards. So that organisations trading between each other can place a level of assurance that their cybersecurity is reciprocated with partner nations. You will guess that we wrote a strategy.
