Call us now:
Cyber threats evolve. We saw it during the pandemic when attacks focused more on home users to access corporate networks, and we’ve seen it as ransomware has evolved to be a predominant cyber threat. One believes that we are starting to see the seeds of the development of a new phase, one of asset destruction.
Asset destruction has always been an option. Lets face it, if you can get inside a target and spend the time rummaging around looking for data. Then you are in a position to decide what to do next. Steal, steal/ ransom, steal/ ransom/ destroy data.
The threat described below should be of real concern. It demonstrates the simplicity of a destructive threat vector. Targeting both Windows and Linux systems, relying on poor attack surface knowledge, unpatched systems, poor network security, access management and monitoring controls.
‘CERT-UA recommends that all critical organizations in the country reduce their attack surface, patch flaws, disable unneeded services, limit access to management interfaces, and monitor their network traffic and logs.’
With the current geopolitical tensions, one hopes that these events are contained. But one suspects given the continued effects of ransomware attacks, asset destruction is simply an extension of current threats.
