Cyberattacks may not be the new norm for everyone, but the once low probability attacks that used to affect websites through DDoS or poor configuration and patch have been replaced by extreme loss, higher probability, high severity threats.
We have become used to data breaches and the theft of PII. The current and new norm is data theft, encryption, ransom and asset destruction. What has not changed is that cyberattacks are not new they evolve based upon the opportunity that nation states, proxy’s, criminals and script kiddies (see attacks following the start of the Ukraine conflict).
A reason regulators are moving forward with cybersecurity risk management legislation, the cyber insurance market needs to evolve and take a lead, and for organisations to close their compliance gaps.
