Cybersecurity has been spinning for the past few years. The promised growth and revenues have been curtailed by economic uncertainty and slow down. That have affected many tech firms over the past years (https://lnkd.in/eE7Mmxpp).
Companies are still feeling the pinch, Palo Alto shares took a significant fall in trading this week, losing nearly 27% ($97) in trading on Wednesday following its announcement of its full-year guidance. As one said in a WSJ article last year, developments in cyber regulation in the U.S and EU create opportunities for the cyber sector. That companies such as Palo Alto should be placed to benefit from. However markets appear to think otherwise.
As the drive by U.S and EU regulators to enforce cybersecurity risk management creates opportunities for companies that understand cybersecurity, risk management and regulatory compliance. However cybersecurity is not technology alone, and technology spend does not appear to be having the desirable effect of managing cyber risk and securing some companies. As required by U.S and EU cyber regulations, and a reason some companies are not ready to demonstrate cybersecurity risk management.
Cyber regulation will drive change across both covered entities and the cyber industry. Starting in the board room and working down to the shop floor. It is a reason we formed Veritas GRC. To educate, advise and enable boards evaluate and manage cybersecurity risk and design their organisations to comply with cyber regulations.
