Cybersecurity risk management is a significant risk for boards. The effects are well demonstrated by the recent attacks against retailers and distributors Marks and Spencer, the Co-op, and UNITED FOODS INTERNATIONAL (USA) INC. The attacks disrupted operations, affected revenue, for some shareprice, for others regulatory reporting. For all companies affected by cyber attacks there is a direct impact on brand and reputation and in the case of German company Fasana last week, insolvency.
For board members of companies in the EU demonstrating the management of cybersecurity risks has associated civil and criminal penalties. For companies listed on US capital markets, annual 10k submissions must disclose material cyber risks and material cyber incidents, to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

This summer Veritas GRC, working with Knowledge Nexus and the The Government of Dubai Legal Affairs Department, are releasing our CLPD accredited Board Governance of Cybersecurity Risk Management Program. Providing boards of companies (including NEDs), with the foundations necessary to implement cybersecurity risk management. A key and for some a regulated practice, necessary for boards to demonstrate governance, oversight and assurance of cybersecurity risk management.
