A commodity which Federal agencies like the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Department of Defence are focusing on through changes in organizational structure and regulation to place a greater emphasis on its management and protection.

In the case of the DHS standing up an office of the Chief Data Officer (CDO) and developing a Supply Chain Risk Management programme for vendor due diligence and software assurance. Following a similar line to the DoD who are deploying their CMMC programme for the security of FCI and CUI data.
