E&Y believes that lack of experience is an advantage for junior consultants, and Accenture says that proven technical skills that include Ai are important.
Here lies a problem, as is becoming clearer every day. While AI is impressive at solving the simple, less complex problems, the difficult stuff is harder to crack using AI, as tacit knowledge and experience is not so readily available in Gen AI and LLMs.
It’s the classic foundry man scenario. A foundry man is a person who casts near-net shape turbine blades. They have 10’s of years of knowledge and experience in the casting process and have built up a significant pool of tacit knowledge about the casting process. Gen AI today has limited tacit knowledge as it currently does not interface with real-world experience; it bases its reasoning on probability and data vectors from available information. Tacit and experience-based information is not readily…….
Ignoring the foundry man is way more expensive than not. As companies rehiring staff, following the AI cull, are finding out.
For example, a nice paper on the impact of Tacit knowledge on academic research. https://lnkd.in/eHw5nnQx
