Following on from the recent PSNI data breach, the UK Metropolitan police may have suffered a data breach exposing the names of Met Officers, following the 3rd party supplier breach. Like the PSNI breach, a loss of personal data on such as this presents real concerns. The PSNI breach may have put officers lives at risk and one suspects that a breach involving Met police officers raises some similar concerns.

Third party supplier hacks have increased in frequency. We know its often the case that those that own data do not understand or attest to the security of data of third party suppliers. In instances such as this, it is not the volume of data that is compromised, but the value of the data. We don’t have details of the compromised PII, but one cannot see it being less than an individuals name.

The divide between the physical world and logical is demonstrated all to well with these types of data breach.
