For those that can get to this article from the Wall Street Journal it is well worth reading. It discuses the challenges ahead for the funding of cyber tech across Series A, B and C and cross over funding.

With the down turn in the global economy funders are pulling back. Fundraising has slowed down in Qtr 1 2022 compared to 2021. With investment firms taking a much closer look at future value, rather than assuming that a $1Million reoccurring revenue equals a $1Billion valuation.

Coming at time when more cyber products are chasing solutions that industry still does not fully accept it needs; when cybersecurity risk management legislation and enforcement regimes are pouring out of the U.S. and EU that will change the cybersecurity landscape; and the threat from cyber attacks is starting to be felt significantly (Shields up).

I have been known to say that cybersecurity has been driven by the cyber tech market, rather than a real desire by boards to manage cyber risks. That is about to change. The investment community has the opportunity to review its future investments based upon a demand that will be driven by firms that need to meet regulatory requirements. Investors will need to ensure that their portfolios deliver products and services that manages cybersecurity risk, not a cybersecurity problem organisation don’t accept they have.
