From June, an interesting article discussing the role of the Defence Industry Base (DIB) in developing U.S national and international Interests. It describes the current challenges faced by the DIB including the declining number of companies, trade controls and loop holes that lead to the theft of critical technologies.

The article describes the need to rethink how the DIB works as a collective network to overcome the challenges of linear thinking. Harnessing collective capabilities, talents, and innovations to revitalize the US Defense Industry and improve capacity.

Alongside the opportunities, benefits and improvements to the U.S. Defence Industry Base there must be consideration of the breadth of the DIB, as an international network of suppliers. The DoD is heavily reliant on the input of international partners for many of its weapon systems. Partners who must balance both their own national as well as international interests.
