Hackers targeting the military across South American countries including Mexico, El Salvador, Colombia, Chile and Peru release sensitive documents. With more to release that may turn out to be embarrassing for their governments.

‘The leak of data stolen from the Secretary of National Defense – known as Sedena – includes six terabytes of files with documents on the surveillance of U.S. Ambassador to Mexico Ken Salazar, as well as transcripts and information on narco-criminal operations.’

The hack prompted Chiles Minister of Defense Maya Fernández to fly back from meetings at the U.N, in order to hold several meetings about the hacks. Possibly highlighting the contentious nature of the hacks and files stolen. That appear from the outside to be on the scale of the Panama Papers, however political rather than financial.
