Here’s a new twist in cybersecurity risk management. One that demonstrates the focus investors and the investment community are starting to pay attention to the lack of cybersecurity risk management of companies.
In the case of Line Yahoo a Joint venture between Japan’s Softbank and South Koreans Naver. Line Yahoo suffered a series of data leaks that it has blamed on insecure systems at Naver. That has resulted in a rise in political tensions between Japan and South Korea. With Japanese officials using national and economic security grounds to argue that Naver should cut its 50% stake in A Holdings, Line Yahoos holding company.
Faisal Khan security governance is an important contributory factor in capital formation and structures, not just for corporate investors but also governments. “Line needs to consider the influence of its capital structure on its security governance. The purpose of this is solely for the protection of personal data, so we will continue to explain carefully to South Korea,†Takeaki Matsumoto, the communications minister, said in an interview.
The data breach and security governance adopted currently effects investment in the joint Japanese Korean venture, and clashes with Japan’s economic security. And in a hint of what is to come next for Japan and data legislation the communications Minister made it clear that “This is a dilemma that will emerge not only in Japan but worldwide when discussing data localization or regulation of digital platforms,†he added.
One is clear that investors are paying closer attention to data and cybersecurity. In this case geopolitics and cybersecurity are crossing into investment strategy.
