I completely agree, it’s all about raising the bar, making it harder to get hacked.
For me you build your defenses in layers, making each stand alone with a clear purpose. Recognising that there are inter-dependencies between layers, like an onion.
Just look.at medieval fortifications, multiple layers of defenses with each layer of fortification tied to the next. Stand alone yet supporting the layer above and below. You make it hard for attackers to penetrate each layer and achieve anything meaningful if they do.
