I lead a boring life. A life that seems to identify the challenges and opportunities the DoWs global Defence Industry Base faces with cybersecurity compliance. The enclosed document is a ‘very’ important read If you are a US defence contractor. The document highlights updates to the US DoW cybersecurity procurement policy and associated procurement procedures.
It’s boring; however, the document is critically important, given the DoW’s economic strength and the DoJ’s focus on cybersecurity compliance. Those who understand DoW policy are forewarned and forearmed, as they guide US DoW procurement actions, decisions, and intent, which are delivered through DFARS. Those who do not understand, then that’s a compliance conversation, as it is becoming increasingly clearer that DIB contractors are required to comply under a Federal Contract.
Being very ‘boring’, doing a simple search for ‘7012’, highlights policies and DFARS, some of which I’d never heard of before. Policies relating to the disclosure of information, procedures to insert cyber into all contracts, compliance and assessment requirements, contractor agreements, and one I especially like is the oversight of contractors’ cybersecurity in the event of cyber incidents. Allowing the DoW to inspect contractor cybersecurity in the event of a cyber incident.
Cyber is entwined through DoW procurement like threads in a tapestry, just waiting for contractors or the Department of Justice to unravel.
