I re-posted the report back in April of the first US power outage, based upon a cyber attack. The incident report is worth a read, if nothing else it identifies that a very simple security event caused the incident.
There was no evidence it was targeted, but what is concerning is the impact of the attack. If simply rebooting a piece of comms equipment caused the issue; what about resiliency, patch management, clarity over the network architecture and what’s facing the outside world. In this case it appears that there may have been no resilience, the power generator lost contact with equipment on their grid possibly for up-to 10 hours.
