If all the signs are to be believed then 2023 will be an year where cyber rises into the board room as a regulatory and legal risk. While many reports state its a top 5 risk for boards, it’s a risk that has not been supported by regulator teeth. That is changing with release of EU NIS 2.0, DORA, the SEC cybersecurity risk management proposal and drive by the Australian government to regulate cyber.
However, with all this comes issues that need to be focused upon.
1. Who is going to support the board room manage the wave of cyber compliance. There are not enough qualified resources at a junior level let alone with board experience to mange cyber?
2. 2022 saw CISOs in court, who wants to be a CISO or cyber advisor when the outcome of poor delivery and advice is a court case?
3. The historic lack of under investment in cyber, makes the compliance journey a long road.
4. Over 95% of organisations are SMBs/ SMEs, that supply chains rely upon, that require affordable cyber solutions.
5. Cyber regulations and standards need to be harmonized across the EU. U.S and APAC.
