Is imitation the sincerest form of flattery?

Is imitation the sincerest form of flattery? If so then U.S and EU cyber legislators are working their hardest to flatter each other by ensuring that cyber regulation is in lockstep on both sides of the Atlantic. Here’s why.

The EUs Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA) requires Financial Institutions to oversight cyber risk across their ICT including Cloud providers, and EU Supervisory Authorities will independently oversight and assure critical ICT providers (that includes cloud). The U.S treasury is looking at cloud and cloud technology risks faced by FS firms.

Both the U.S and EU are working to cyber certify the manufacturers of digital products and services in both jurisdictions. As discussed in a U.S Whitehouse paper, the EU Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) and ONCD National Cyber strategy.

EU NIS 2.0 focuses on cyber security risk management of CNI providers and the ONCD cyber strategy is focused on defending Critical Infrastructure (amongst other things).

There’s more alignment in strategic cyber thinking than one may at first glance think.
