It is not that it’s another cyber incident report. It is not that the number of cyber incidents reported to and by ENISA is likely a fraction of the cyber incidents that took place across the EU (1276 cyber incidents officially reported by ENISA).

What makes this report important, in one’s opinion? Is that it reports cyber incidents across the whole of the EU, as very few governments require the reporting of cyber incidents.

However, we can expect more reports and more accurate reporting of cyber incidents over the years to come. EU NIS 2 is slowly being transposed and ratified by all EU member states. It requires each member state to implement a national cyber strategy; implement a National Cybersecurity Authority and Single Point of Contact for cybersecurity, and it requires all covered CNI providers to report significant cyber incidents to their cyber-authority within 24 hours. Who will report these cyber incidents to ENISA?

So EU member states and the EU Parliament will have more clarity over the cyber-threats they face and will be better able to deal with them.
