It maybe coincidence but MGM international saw it’s share price change from a high of $44.47 to close at $42.70 in trading yesterday. Not a massive drop, but it lost ground. MGM is going through a difficult situation, managing a cyber incident. The cyber incident demonstrates the challenges that public firms face with cyber attacks, more so when material cyber incident and material cyber risk reporting starts for SEC covered registrants in December 2023.
Later this week we will publish a paper on ‘adequate’ cyber risk management compliance to the SEC final rule. In the meantime the effects of cyber attacks such as those reported by MGM International, demonstrate the challenges organizations face today. Beyond December 2023, SEC registrants, their boards and accountable executives face greater challenges with ensuring they comply to SEC final rule. This is not a FUD debate, as the final rule articulates clear deliverables. Deliverables that will be used by regulators and market participants to assess the effects of cyber risk management on their investments, and act accordingly.
