It’s reminiscent of 2017 and the attack on Maersk. MSC the Mediterranean Shipping Company, the worlds second largest container shipping line by container volume. Has been off-line since Friday 10th April. It is not confirmed that they have suffered a cyber attack, but they have taken down their systems as a precaution.
At a time when global supply chains are stressed due to the Coronva virus. Having one of the worlds largest container cargo transporters off line does not help. As intermodal transport accounts for over 90% of global non-bulk transport.
Cyber attack or not, I’ve written about this in the past. Intermodal transport is a critical link in global supply chains. Slow or stop this mode of transport then there is an impact on the most basic of commodities and global trade. The only difference cyber makes is in the time it takes to get back up and running.
