Call us now:
Japan’s defense networks seem to have been hacked by the Chinese, back in 2020. The U.S told Japanese officials that the Chinese had breached Tokyo’s defense networks, making it one of the most damaging hacks in that country’s modern history.
Requiring the intervention of Gen. Paul Nakasone, the head of the NSA and U.S. Cyber Command, and Matthew Pottinger, the then White House deputy national security adviser. It appears from the WP article that the warnings did not get the attention that was required. Requiring U.S scrutiny to help support the Japanese improve network security, grow its cyber force and subsequently increase cyber spending.
Tensions in the region are high and as confirmed by recent cyber attacks on Microsoft, reports that DoD systems have been compromised and CNI infrastructure that the DoD relies upon may also have been compromised by the Chinese. Cyber is a nation state problem, that is no longer a FUD debate.
One wonders with the complexities of international relations and cybersecurity compliance how we manage and protect the most sensitive of data.
