Law firms are facing pressure following data breaches, as lawsuits mount. Law suits citing a failure to apply appropriate cybersecurity controls to mitigate cyber risk.

In this case a proposed class action have been bought against U.S. law firm Thompson Coburn and its client Presbyterian Healthcare Services for failing to safeguard healthcare and other personal information. The plaintiff cited that the law firm held his data in the course of providing legal services to Presbyterian healthcare services.

The complaint is worth a read as it is a thorough evaluation of the opportunities and threats that organisations that undergoes a data breach could be required to demonstrate in their defense.
