M&A just got a little more interesting in the U.S as the Department of Justice moves ahead, requiring organizations to disclose misconduct committed by businesses they are buying. As ‘“a new era” of national security threats arising from corporate malfeasance’ one wonders how this moves across into the cyberspace with the introduction of cyber regulation, setting the standards for oversight and assurance of cyber risk. Cyber risk that is assessed during the M&A process. and one that has an effect on national security. Requiring organizations to oversight, assure and attest material cyber risk.

One remembers the cyber challenges faced by Marriot that effected its brand and reputation following an acquisition, albeit not a national security issue, but potentially a material risk.
