Moving left is more than a strategic shift, it’s an organisational, governance, cultural, risk and strategic shift. It requires the delivery of a proactive approach to cybersecurity risk management. Software development and the SDLC is one small component of the shift left required.
What a shift left, or to coin the military phrase (US Marines) a shift left of bang is about is a wholesale rethink of situational awareness and ‘what if’ planning before an event happens. In part it’s about assessing risk and putting in place a plan of mitigation, rather than doing nothing and managing the problem when it is ‘here and now’.
