My concern for the security community is that there are several planets aligning that cannot be controlled. Whose affects will be felt by security professionals. the case of the SolarWinds CISO will be far from the last.
1. Cyber regulation in the U.S and EU assigns civil and criminal sanctions against cybersecurity compliance.
2. The SEC charges against the SolarWinds CISO demonstrate the lens the regulator is using to oversight cyber regulatory compliance.
3. Cyber is a significant legal risk. Many in the security community do not appreciate the potential implications that the current trajectory places upon them.
4. Corporate management of cybersecurity needs to be addressed urgently. Cybersecurity maturity will be viewed by regulators, as will past regulatory filings and market statements.
