NoThe UK, as with other nations, has always faced cybersecurity risk, and that’s not splitting hairs. All one has to do is look at the challenges that the US, EU and APAC has faced over the past few years, to understand that both the UK public and private sector has faced cyber issues. Companies have chosen to transfer the risk to cyber insurers, rather than address the ‘Left of Bang’ costs of managing the risk up front.According to Cisco’s latest Index, released Wednesday, only four per cent of UK firms are fully prepared to defend against today’s complex cyber threats. Here in lies the problem, board of companies have a fiduciary responsibility to manage risk, including cyber. For many reasons this has not happened effectively and we are seeing more successful cyber attacks as the hackers turn to more advanced tools. Tools that are advancing far quicker than companies use of technology to support the management of cyber risks. Tools such as AI that can be used by script kiddies to build and deploy hacking campaigns in hours and manage them in real time. One has said for many years that the UK requires the government to provide leadership and a defensive cyber strategy. At a time when we don’t have enough resources to manage cyber risk, the UK needs a comprehensive strategy to empower industry with the knowledge skills and then experience to manage cyber risk.Hackers, in this case what appears to be script kiddies, are going after the low hanging fruit that is retail. We have seen plenty of CNI provides in the US, EU and Australia hacked. Is the UK CNI cybersecurity good enough to withstand such attacks, as AI mainstream, the report by CISCO seem to suggest it is not?@Thaddeus Dziekanowski Brian D.
