Okta has confirmed the attack on its customers late yesterday, including a timeline of the incident from January 2022, when a Sitel employee was compromised, to March 2022. There is no clarity on the exact number of affected customer and what the impact to them is. Other than the maximum potential impact is 366 (approximately 2.5% of) customers whose Okta tenant was accessed by Sitel, a third party supplier. (https://lnkd.in/de64waSc)
Okta is a significant IAM solution provider for international clients across many sectors including those that are regulated. As a public company one wonders how the market regulator is going to react, how Okta customers are going to react and how its investors are going to react? At a time when Federal Government is emphasising a heightened state of alert for cyber attacks.
LAPSUS$ stated that their intention was not to attack Okta, but to extract data from its customers.
