Call us now:
Resistance maybe futile? The UnitedHealth cyber attack is one demonstration of the effect of a cyber attack on the healthcare sector in the U.S. With calls from parts of Washington that the systemic cybersecurity risk the sector faces warrants cyber regulation. With the possibility that the U.S Presidents Office issuing a notice of proposed rule making this month.
“As these companies have become so large, it is creating a systemic cybersecurity risk,†Sen. Ron Wyden, an Oregon Democrat, said Thursday during a Senate Finance Committee hearing featuring Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra, whose agency is responsible for overseeing the health care industry’s digital security standards. There maybe trouble ahead as the U.S government sees the need to regulate cybersecurity risk management across U.S healthcare, while healthcare industry groups are resistant to increased regulation, looking for financial support to implement change. Both sides have a further problem to contend. As a previous article points out, simply spending money on cyber does not address the problem. A problem that requires a leadership, cultural, and process change in organisations, and the appropriate resources to design and implement risk management solutions.
With cyber being a front and center issue, one suspects we will see cyber regulatory proposals from HHS in the comping months.
