Seagates $300 million fine is significant and sends a clear message that U.S regulators will not tolerate organizations, in the case, breaching export controls. The Bureau of Industry and Security imposed controls over certain foreign-produced items related to Huawei. Items that were found to have been supplied to the company by Seagate as their sole supplier.

Seagate authorized extended lines of credit to Huawei totally more than $1 billion, that Huawei was otherwise unable to obtain. One suspects that the decisions to proceed by Seagate may have created more problems than opportunities.
