Security and AI are such a fickle rollercoaster ride when it comes to investors. Claud has introduced a new security feature as part of its AI platform.

Why are the markets so fickle? The Claud product is a code-based vulnerability scanner, and Claud and any other AI products have, as yet, developed products or services that will disaggregate security vendors from across the broad swath of security capabilities that vendors focus on. But it caused a significant shift in security stocks.

There are a couple of issues going against AI at the moment when it comes to the development of cybersecurity tools. The first is that AI does not yet have the knowledge needed to create cybersecurity products and services outside of coding. The second is that AI is unreliable, in that it hallucinates. The third is that for some industries, such as financial services, enabling a tool that fixes vulnerabilities in code in any environment other than Dev isn’t going to happen any time soon. The fourth is that AI isn’t happy working in adversarial, high-stakes environments if it doesn’t have guardrails to operate within. A final observation is that AI works well when there is a high degree of probability that it can accurately correlate data. The probability falls the less you know about the cause and effects, and that’s a problem for cybersecurity.

There are, of course, many advantages of using AI, and models will improve over time. Friday’s stock fall demonstrates the fickle nature of markets and the lack of knowledge that markets have about cybersecurity and AI. But that’s not going to stop market volatility.
