Sitting within the Executive Office, the U.S National Cyber Strategy forms a foundation for U.S cybersecurity regulation.

As demonstrated by the recent announcement by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for the safeguarding of Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) (https://lnkd.in/eBMXhh9z), setting out requirements for contractors to secure CUI, following a similar approach to the DoD. One can start to see an alignment of cybersecurity policy with the National Cyber strategy. Alignment that impacts contractors providing products and services to Federal Agencies.

Contractors to Federal Government have an incentive to ensure they meet their contractual obligations, that increasingly includes cybersecurity risk management. With the False Claims Act (FCA) sitting in the background providing the mechanism for effecting contractual compliance, that has been successfully used as a enforcement tool.
