Some interesting points raised at the U.S House Energy and Commerce Committee hearing on cyber security 11.01.24. It’s 3 hour long, but there are some interesting comments.

– The replacement program, removing communications equipment that originates from the CCP – ‘Removing untrusted equipment from our networks is a priority, what is the threat of the continued presence of the equipment in our networks’. If you have untrusted equipment in a network, with a connection to an aggressive cyber attack state, then you have an ever present threat of espionage and data exfiltration; disruption or destruction of networks, cohesion of nations through the operation of telecom networks.
– U.S cyber trust mark program – Is it difficult to create a trust market program. It is difficult to communicate to consumers that is simple and straightforward.
– At 50 minutes, Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) was not built with security in mind. It was built for communications not authentication.
– What can the U.S do to build Secure by Design – Work continuing on how to make it happen.
– Tik Tok is an extremely severe national security threat.
