The SEC are suing law firm Covington and Burling LLP to reveal the details of 298 clients that are regulated by the SEC, following a 2020 data breach. A breach that could have allowed hackers to access undisclosed corporate information and make illicit trades and whether Covington made disclosures to shareholders.
In what appears to be a fight between the Covington that wants to protect the identifies of its clients, and the SEC that wants to investigate shareholder disclosure and examine the potential for market manipulation.
