Tensions are rising over potential acts of Sabotage against Dutch critical Energy infrastructure. Dutch intelligence services AIVD and MIVD warns that “vital marine infrastructure” could be vulnerable to sabotage and that Russia is undertaking “activities that indicate espionage and acts to prepare for disruption and sabotage.”

As NATO announces the formation of a critical undersea infrastructure coordination cell”, bringing together military and the private sector to focus on securing undersea communications infrastructure.

It comes at a time when EU, Australian and U.S regulators aim to improve cybersecurity of CNI providers through cybersecurity risk management regulation. Whilst it won’t provide much help for undersea communications, it will add a layer of protection over the ICT infrastructure that relies on the communications and that of the end points.
