Thank you for posting @Thaddeus Dziekanowski, its hard to add any value to the newspaper article. Other that to ask, how do you delete the account and backups from a cloud account of the Australian pension fund worth $125 billion? At what point does the system allow this to happen?

Reports are that it occurred due to an unprecedented sequence of events and is an isolated one-of-a-kind occurrence. It does however demonstrate the fragility of digital infrastructure and from the reports ‘luck’ that a third party backup was also held.
