Thank you IFACI for the opportunity to discuss cybersecurity risk management, the impact of international cyber regulations, and the role of Internal Audit as the 3rd Line of Defence.
Many disagree with the ‘stick’ approach of regulation to address corporate issues. But U.S and EU regulators are moving forward with cybersecurity risk management programs and enforcement regimes that are international in their scope and impact. Regulatory proposals that require boards and their governing committees to oversight, assure and attest cybersecurity risk management compliance. A role that internal audit performs in part today and one that will become important as Board Chairs and CEOs have to demonstrate their cybersecurity expertise and require their internal audit teams to evaluate cybersecurity risk management compliance. Compliance that is complex to evaluate and attest.
