Thanks for posting Ted Dziekanowski. A 100% jump in nation state attacks (20% to 40%), is no small increase measured by Microsoft. Albeit a jump as Russia targeted Ukrainian and Western Allies infrastructure and to gain intelligence. 90% of Russian attacks targeted NATO countries and IT firms based in NATO countries.
These attacks are compounded by Iran, China and North Korea have actively used cyber as a Weapon. Both China and North Korea are well adept at using cyber for IP theft to further their technological development. North Korean has used cyber attacks as an effective tool to fund it Missile defence program. While China probably doesn’t need the money, it’s Nation state hackers and their proxy’s are highly skilled at developing cyber threat vectors for espionage and noted to have used cyber to influence countries the Asia Pacific region.
Most companies cannot defend themselves against nation state hackers. The real concern is the use of the hacking tools and techniques by nation state proxy’s and criminal gangs. As tools make their way down the hierarchy and nation states influence and control hackers in their regions?
