The effect of the United Healthcare cyber attack is laid bare as its confirmed the attack affected 100 million U.S citizens. As one of the world largest companies the incident won’t leave any lasting impact on the company. What the markets care about is the company’s adjusted net earnings is within the $27.50 to $28.00 range, easily absorbing the expected impact of business disruptions of $0.75 per share of business disruption. The impact on U.S Citizens is not a financial factor.
This is a fact of life for public companies, unless that is political leaders decide to change the focus on cybersecurity risk management across the health industry it will remain so. One wonders if the Bill proposed by Senator Wyden and Warner may change the focus. However there’s an election to get through first.
